Six and a half months after its debut, Rivers Casino in Des Plaines continues to be the state’s biggest cash cow, garnering just over $30 million in January, according to the Illinois Gaming Board.
The latest gaming site started the new year on a high note, beating Elgin’s Grand Victoria and Harrah’s Joliet, which made $18.4 million and $16.4 million, respectively, last month, recently-released figures show.
Though it’s still at the top of the leader board, the January revenue for Rivers Casino is about 8 percent less than the December figures. Admissions were also down by 5.5 percent in January over the prior month, dropping from 308,767 to 291,527, gaming board documents show.
Overall, the Des Plaines casino has generated nearly $208 million in revenue since it opened in mid-July. With the exception of July — it was open for two weeks — the gaming establishment has made at least $30 million every month. August was Rivers’ best month so far, when it posted $34.1 million in revenue, followed by December and November.
