Chippewa Middle School student approached by man, and more

The following items were taken from Des Plaines Police records on Feb. 6.

Suspicious incident

  • A man approached a Chippewa Middle School seventh-grade student waiting for the bus between 7 a.m. and 7:15 a.m. Jan. 26 on the 1900 block of East Rand Road. According to reports, the man began speaking to the students from across the street, asking why he was out there for so long and when the bus would pick him up. The child became scared and called his mother, who immediately drove the scene, dropped her son off at school and called District 62 officials. The man is described as wearing big glasses and baggy pants with sandy colored hair and carrying a plastic grocery bag.

Resisiting a police officer

  • A 21-year-old Chicago woman was arrested at 4:45 a.m. Feb. 2 on the 1900 block of South Birch Street and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting a police officer after she began yelling racial slurs at a cab driver and officers and then refused to comply with police orders. The woman was visiting a friend in Des Plaines, but later refused to leave when she became highly intoxicated. The woman initially refused to take a cab home, prompting her friend to call police.

Criminal damage

  • Someone lit a recycling bin with a road flare around 8:45 p.m. Feb. 1 on the 80th block of Michael Road. A homeowner who noticed the flames and smoke put the fire out with water.

Burglary

  • About 15 CDs, a phone charger and phone adapter were taken from a car between 9 p.m. Feb. 1 and 6:45 a.m. Feb. 2 on the 1400 block of East Forest Avenue. The items were valued at $145.

Theft

  • A 36-year-old Bellevue, Wash., man and a 30-year-old Chicago woman were arrested at 1:36 p.m. Feb. 1 at Dominick’s on the 1500 block of South Lee Street and charged with theft. The duo stole four boxes of razor blades and eyeliner, all valued at $95.45. Items like alcohol, Crest White Strips, baby formula and razor blades, all valued at more than $981, were also taken from the same store between Jan. 26 and Jan. 29.
  • Exactly 224 pieces of yellow painted steel shelving beams were taken from a trailer between 6 p.m. Feb. 2 and 10 a.m. Feb. 3 on the 2300 block of South Mount Prospect Road. The items were valued at $3,920. Three similar thefts occurred near that area between Oct. 21 and Nov. 16.

Drinking in public

  • A 26-year-old man, of the 800 block of North Avenue, was arrested at 7:50 p.m. Feb. 5 on the 900 block of South Sixth Avenue and cited with drinking in public. The man was carrying seven open cans of Natural Ice beer and has a warrant for possession of cannabis in Rolling Meadows.
