The following items were taken from Des Plaines Police records on Feb. 2.
Suspicious incident
- A man and a woman were seen pulling a crying child into a large black van at 9:04 a.m. Feb. 1 in a parking lot on the 300 block of Beau Drive. When police arrived, the van was no longer in the lot. A neighbor said she looked out her window and saw a man and woman pushing a child between 10 years old to 15 years old into a dark colored van, though she was unsure if they were his parents.
- A man said he was driving his car around 5:15 p.m. Feb. 1 on the 1500 block of Touhy Avenue when the rear windshield shattered. The man said he had gotten into a previous altercation with two men in another car 15 minutes prior to the incident and believes they followed him and threw something at the window.
Burglary
- A Kinwoo stereo and bass boost, Sony Xplod power source and keys were taken from an unlocked car between 10 p.m. Jan. 31 and 7 a.m. Feb. 1 on the 600 block of East Walnut Court. The man said someone tried to open his back door around 1 a.m. The items were valued at $550.
- About $15 were taken from two unlocked cars between 6 p.m. Jan. 31 and 12:45 p.m. Feb. 1 on the 1000 block of South Alfini Drive.
- Jewelry, a GPS, perfume and money were taken from a home between 7:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. Jan. 31 on the 900 block of Center Street. The homeowner said she locked the door before leaving for work. The items were valued at $1,935.
Unlawful use of ID
- A 24-year-old Chicago man who ran a red light was arrested at 9:08 p.m. Jan. 31 on the 500 block of Graceland Avenue and charged with no driver’s license and unlawful use of identification card. The man had an Illinois ID in his wallet that didn’t belong to him and said he uses it because he does not have a valid driver’s license.
Criminal damage
- Police found an upside down pitchfork scratched on a door of the Des Plaines Public Library parking garage at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 1 on the 1400 block of Prairie Avenue. Damage was set at $10.
Resisting a police officer
- A 24-year-old man of the 500 block of West Touhy Avenue and an 18-year-old man of the 1300 block of South Cora Street were arrested at 4:51 p.m. Jan. 31 on the 1300 block of East Howard Avenue and charged with drinking in public, criminal trespassing and resisting a police officer. The men drank beer on a sidewalk, entered a home without permission and locked the doors, despite police asking them to come outside. Police broke down the door with the homeowner’s permission. The 18-year-old is also charged with possession/consumption of alcohol by a minor and the 24-year-old is also charged with encouraging delinquency of a minor.
