Woman’s identity used to buy painkillers, and more

The following items were taken from Des Plaines Police records on Jan. 26.

Unlawful acquisition of controlled substance

  • A 37-year-old woman told Des Plaines police someone used her identity to order prescription drugs at an Elgin Walgreen’s on Jan. 16. The woman said the painkillers — 120 pills of Norco and 60 pills of Relafen — were not prescribed to her, but were later picked up at a Des Plaines Walgreen’s on Rand Road. A manager for Walgreen’s said a balding man wearing a hoodie picked up the painkillers.

Criminal damage

  • Four car tires were slashed outside the Chinese Buffet Restaurant between 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Jan. 21 on the 1200 block of East Oakton Street. Damage was set at $500.

Burglary

  • Copper piping was taken from the basement of a vacant home between Dec. 23 and Jan. 22 on the 1400 block of Oxford Road. A realtor noticed the pipes were missing while she was showing the home to potential buyers. The pipes were valued at $3,000. The property manager said the home has been vacant for four months and the locks were changed, though the garage code is the same.
  • Vehicle registration papers, an insurance card and car service record documents were taken from a car in a driveway between 4 p.m. Jan. 22 and noon Jan. 23 on the 800 block of Tures Lane. The owner told police he locked the vehicle, but came outside the next day and noticed the car door ajar.

Minor attempting to access the casino

  • A 20-year-old Melrose Park woman was cited for using a license that belonged to someone else to enter the Rivers Casino at 4:50 a.m. Jan. 8 on the 3000 block of South River Road. The woman also was banned for life from the establishment.

Trespassing

  • A 45-year-old Chicago man was cited for trespassing at the downtown train depot at 9:48 p.m. Jan. 22 on the 1500 block of East Miner Street. Police said the man was sleeping on a bench surrounded by four bags of garbage inside the station. They told him to leave, but he said he was waiting for the next train. About 50 minutes after a train had passed, the man was still there and said he had every right to remain.
  • A 57-year-old Chicago man who was cited for trespassing at the Rivers Casino on Dec. 9 returned to the site at 5:25 p.m. Jan. 16 and was cited for criminal trespassing. A pit boss recognized the man on Jan. 16 and he was taken to the security office. The man said he understood he was not allowed on the property, but reports do not indicate why he was given an initial trespassing ticket.
