“Rivers Casino” is the name of the gambling facility scheduled to open in July in Des Plaines, Midwest Gaming and Entertainment officials announced today.

The name is a tribute to the nearby waterway and the “green” initiatives incorporated into the complex, they said.

The company also said it will hold its first job fair April 8 at the Rosemont Convention Center. The casino is expected to create 1,000 jobs — from dealers to restaurant personnel to management.

“We are excited about creating jobs in the Chicagoland area after creating hundreds of construction jobs over the past year,” said Greg Carlin, Midwest Gaming CEO, in a statement. “We look forward to being a great entertainment destination for many years to come and we will be a major employer and a good neighbor for Des Plaines and the Chicagoland region.”

The $445 million casino could be the first gaming facility in the nation to be LEED certified for its green design, materials and practices, according to a press release. The casino is under construction at Devon Avenue and River Roads, near the Des Plaines River in the southeast corner of the city.

The 143,000 square-foot facility will have 1,200 gambling positions and several restaurants and bars, including a buffet, sports bar, cafe, and Asian noodle shop. Among the new eateries will be Hugo’s Frog Bar and Chop House, operated by the Gibson’s Restaurant Group. There will be a “Canopy Buffet” under skylights and with live green walls.

The job fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit http://www.riverscasino.net/
