‘Jewish Jordan’ teaches Deerfield kids about basketball

Deerfield children this holiday season were able to get pointers on their basketball game from former basketball pro Tamir Goodman, once dubbed the 'Jewish Michael Jordan' by Sports Illustrated magazine. Goodman spent Dec. 20 through Dec. 22 with local kids at the Coolanu Israel Basketball Camps in the Joy of the Game Sports Center in Deerfield. Children, between grades third and eighth, learned about about passing, dribbling and Judaism. “You need to represent something bigger than yourself,” Goodman said in a statement. “The lower you are to the ground, the more rooted you are, the more humble you are, then the best you will be. You need to keep your head up because every moment, every day counts. It’s the same thing in Judaism as it is in life. You need to react positively.” Goodman has played on the Maryland Nighthawks and on basketball teams in Israel. He was MVP at the Capitol Classic all-star game. At age 27 in 2009, he retired after a series of injuries prevented him from continuing on in his career. Since then, Goodman has taught more than 25,000 children throughout North America and Israel at basketball clinics, according to his web site, Tamirgoodman.com. --Photos by DejaViewsUSA.com
