As part of an ongoing effort to help the less fortunate enjoy the upcoming holidays, Deerfield’s Holy Cross Catholic Church and School is donating Market Day pies to the families and faculty members at St. Malachy, their sister parish in Chicago.
“We recognize that the holidays can be tough for some people, especially in this economy. To help out, Holy Cross families are purchasing pies from Market Day so that St. Malachy can enjoy them with their Thanksgiving dinners,” said Lori James, Market Day co-chair for Holy Cross.
“The pie donation is embraced by all of our families because it is an outgrowth of our ongoing charitable work,” said Mary Wegh, also a Market Day co-chair.
The fundraising program is in its 5th year and is one of the school's biggest fundraisers, generating record sales and record pies, more than 200 in 2009, according to school records.
"Our school makes significant funds with this program and each donor passes on the warm feeling of giving thanks by also donating a pie to a needy family at St. Malachy," said Andy Galus, Holy Cross principal. "Our goal is to give so that needy families can have a little something special that they haven't expected for Thanksgiving."
