State police are investigating whether a medical emergency played a role in a crash that killed a Lake Bluff woman Monday morning on Interstate-94 in Lake County.
Regina Medvedovskaya, 45, of the 3300 block of Stratford Court, lost control of her 1997 Lexus around 10 a.m. while traveling west in the right lane near Deerfield Road, police said.
The car swerved into the middle lane and hit the rear tire of a semi trailer, said Master Sgt. Carlita Joe. The vehicle then crossed the left lane and struck the center barrier.
Medvedovskaya was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Deerfield Fire Department. She was transported to Highland Park Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 10:43 a.m. A spokeswoman for the Lake County Coronor said the cause of death was multiple trauma.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
“It could have been a medical emergency,” Joe said.
Police said Medvedovskaya was not wearing a seat belt.
