Lake Forest woman struck by freight train in Deerfield

A 29-year-old Lake Forest woman who was killed Friday afternoon accidentally stepped in front of a freight train at a Deerfield Metra stop, the Lake County Coroner said Monday.

The death of Lauren Levert, of the 500 block of Spruce Avenue, was been ruled an accident by Coroner Richard Keller.  She died of multiple injuries consistent with being struck by a train, Keller said. The accident happened at the Deerfield Metra stop at 860 Deerfield Road at about about 1:40 p.m., the coroner said.

Keller added that Levert had worked in the area and had likely been at the station to take a Metra train home to Lake Forest. Her family has been notified, he said.

The Canadian Pacific freight train had been passing by the Deerfield Metra stop heading into Chicago when it struck Levert, said Metra spokesman Tom Miller.  The accident delayed Metra trains for about 30 minutes, he said.
