Who doesn’t enjoy a good bargain? In today’s economy finding gently used goods at reasonable prices makes great sense. The Our Lady of Peace (OLP) Home and School Association (HSA) understands the value of a dollar, so this group of volunteer parents together with the help of parishioners are preparing to host a garage sale on June 26th from 9am – 2pm with a half price sale on Sunday the 27th from 1-4pm. The Home and School Association’s garage sale profits will provide a portion of the fundraising for the school. The HSA fundraises throughout the school year in order to defray the operating costs of the school, which in turn keeps the school’s tuition at one of the lowest of area Catholic Schools.
This sale follows the success of OLP’s first garage sale, which was held in November of ’09 and received rave reviews. Organizing the wonderful, generous donations by parishioners and local Darien residents presented some challenges last winter, since the items were housed in a school building full of students. With a lot of hard work, the fabulous volunteers created a second hand store in no time. 8th grade students earned service hours necessary to graduate for their efforts. The dad’s club stepped up and restored the building to a school again with amazing speed. Those involved enjoyed witnessing the community uniting and accomplishing what at times seemed like an impossible task. New friendships formed and many laughs were shared.
In the next few weeks some of the same volunteers will join forces with new recruits to organize, price, sort, and prepare many donations for the June 26th garage sale. If you would like to donate your gently used items, we will supply you with a tax donation worksheet to assist you at tax time. WE WILL ACCEPT: gently used clothes, furniture, toys, stuffed animals, electronics, lamps, sporting goods, housewares, books, treadmills, luggage, patio items, art, jewelry, tools, holiday items, bikes, movies, CDs, and more! WE CANNOT ACCEPT: Any recalled toys, Magnetix building sets, Polly Pocket dolls with magnets, any recalled portable cribs, car seats older than 5 years, or car seats that have been in a car accident, building supplies, snow skis, curtain rods, STAINED OR TORN CLOTHING & TOWELS, computers, TVs older than 10 years , school text books, encyclopedias, light fixtures, stereo console, and electronics that do not work.
Donations will be accepted at the
front doors of the school on:
Friday, June 18th from 3:00-7:00,
Saturday, June 19th from 12:00-4:00,
& Monday and Tuesday June 21st and 22nd from 3:00-7:00.
If you are a consumer looking for gently used items with plenty of life left in them, please shop with us on June 26th from 9-2pm, or the 27th for 1/2 price day from 1-4pm. Our Lady of Peace School educates children from preschool thru 8th grade and is located at 709 Plainfield Rd. in Darien.
