Recently, State Sen. Kirk Dillard had the opportunity to welcome home the 863rd Engineering Battalion at the U.S. Parkhurst Army Reserve Center in Darien.

The engineering battalion served 18 months in Afghanistan clearing IEDs to open roads, and suffered two casualties. Sen. Dillard said it was his privilege to meet with the west suburban citizen soldiers and thank them for their service to their country.
