Special Events for Children Ages 5 – 10 Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum & Lincoln Park Zoo Sunday, August 8 We visit the butterfly garden and enjoy a picnic lunch at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Chicago, followed by a stop at Lincoln Park Zoo to see our favorite animals. Friday Night Fun Friday, August 13 While parents enjoy an evening out, your children (siblings, too!) enjoy a pizza dinner, games, and a craft. Held at the Grand Avenue Recreation Center in Western Springs. Special Events for Youth & Young Teens – Ages 11 – 15 Six Flags Great America Sunday, August 1 Join SEASPAR for a day of exciting rides such as the American Eagle and Raging Bull, great games, and a delicious lunch. Yogi Bear Jellystone Camp Monday, August 9 – Friday, August 13 Join SEASPAR for a week of fun at O’Connell’s Yogi Bear Jellystone Park Camp Resort in Amboy, Illinois. The park offers Yogi’s Fun Zone, Amboy Falls Gem Mining Sluice, a drive-in theater, and three swimming! Participants sleep in cabins and enjoy meals they help prepare. Phillips Park Zoo Thursday, August 12 Get in touch with your wild side as you take a tour at Phillips Park Zoo in Aurora. We participate in a scavenger hunt while learning about eagles, snakes, and wolves. Lunch is included. Teen Overnight Saturday, August 14 – Sunday, August 15 We visit Brookfield Zoo where we enjoy dinner while watching the wild animals and later return to the Brookfield Municipal Building for games and snacks! Breakfast is provided on Sunday. Special Events for Teens & Adults – Ages 16 and over Chicago White Sox Sunday, August 1 Spend an afternoon at US Cellular Field watching Chicago’s south side sluggers host the legendary Oakland A’s. Movie in the Park Friday, August 6 You are in for a fun evening as you join friends from SEASPAR and other SRAs to watch “Hook” under the shining stars at Ebersold Park in Downers Grove. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and dress for the weather. Freshly popped popcorn and beverages are served. In case of inclement weather, the movie is held at the Woodridge Community Center. Funfest Sunday, August 8 Gather for one of America’s favorite summer pastimes, a picnic-style get-together which includes games, entertainment , and dancing. Our evening is complete with picnic. Held at Prospect Park in Clarendon Hills. Participants should be dropped off at the pavilion located on Norfolk between Oxford and Prospect. In case of inclement weather, we take the party inside at the Clarendon Hills Community Center, 315 Chicago Avenue. Shrek The Musical Saturday, August 7 What happens when a giant green ogre and a donkey show up to rescue princess Fiona instead of a handsome prince? Find out when Broadway in Chicago brings this Dreamworks hit to life on the stage. Knutson’s Country Harvest Wednesday, August 18 Travel with SEASPAR to Knutson’s Country Harvest in Newark, Illinois for a delicious sampling of the summer crop, hand-picked by you! We tour the orchards, learn about the honey bee hives, pick our own fruit, and enjoy a picnic lunch on a private island surrounded by the fruit orchards. Norman B. Barr Camp (Ages 19 – 26) Monday – Friday, August 9 – August 13 Norman B. Barr Camp in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, gives participants the opportunity to experience residential camping at its best. Activities include swimming, boating, and crafts. Participants sleep in cabins, and enjoy meals prepared by the “mess hall” staff. Wilderness Expedition Monday, August 16 – Tuesday, August 17 Trek out to Lena KOA campground for two days of rustic living. We stay in cabins and cook our meals alfresco over a campfire. Route 66 Raceway Saturday, August 21 The Demolition Derby is back! Watch the excitement as dirt flies, cars smash, and crowds cheer. Barn Dance Sunday, August 22 SEASPAR returns to Arabian Knights Farm for our favorite dances. A scenic hay ride around the farm is included and a pizza dinner is provided.
