Coach Jen Belmonte said the excitement still hadn’t worn off at Hinsdale South on Monday afternoon.
The Hornets beat seven-time defending West Suburban Gold champion Proviso East 59-43 on Friday to win their first conference title since 2004. Point guard Toni Romiti, the only junior starter on a team with seven seniors, “played out of her mind that night,” according to Belmonte. Romiti, who leads the team with 11 points per game, scored 14 for the Hornets (19-5, 11-1).
