A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with three smash-and-grab burglaries in downtown Crystal Lake last week.
Joshua J. Barranco, of Berwyn, has been charged with three counts of burglary, three counts of theft and five counts of criminal damage to property.
Police responded to three separate burglaries during the early morning hours Wednesday, according to a press release. The businesses — Trax Coffee Shot, Dawn’s Bread Shop and The Running Depot — were entered by force and an undisclosed amount of cash had been taken.
Investigators later gathered video surveillance from the downtown business district that showed a suspect near one of the businesses around the time of the break in. Police that night were dispatched to the train station for a report of a mentally unstable person near the railroad tracks.
That man was identified as Barranco, who allegedly matched the description of the suspect in the surveillance video, according to police. He was transported to Centegra Hospital-Woodstock for evaluation, and later released.
Barranco was arrested and charged Monday.
