New parking restrictions implemented on McCullom Street

New Crystal Lake parking restrictions near Illinois and McCullom streets aim to alleviate traffic congestion for larger vehicles making deliveries in that area.

Parking will now be prohibited on the north and south sides of McCullom Street west of Illinois Street near the Crystal Pines Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

The restrictions were enacted due to traffic problems that arose for delivery trucks, school buses and emergency vehicles that needed to access the nursing home driveway, according to Erik Morimoto, director of engineering and building.

Cars previously parked in that area also forced larger vehicles to go up on the curb and parkway to make the turn from northbound Illinois Street to westbound McCullom Street, damaging the streetscape.

“The no parking zone is limited to a small area near the intersection, but allows these larger vehicles to safely make the turns necessary to reach their destinations,” Morimoto said.

The area is located near the 300 block of Illinois Street. The new ordinance will take affect this month.
