Road projects nearing completion

Crystal Lake officials believe construction projects are on target despite delays stemming from the summer’s labor strike.

“We’re pleasantly surprised with where we are at,” said Victor Ramirez, director of engineering. “All in all, everything should be complete by the end of September.”

With prep work complete, crews this week are moving forward with the downtown resurfacing project. Work includes structure adjustments and curbs on Crystal Lake Avenue and Grant, Minnie and Woodstock Streets.

The construction area includes Crystal Lake Avenue from East Street to Walkup Avenue; Grant Street from Crystal Lake Avenue to Woodstock Street; Woodstock Street from Main Street to Walkup Avenue; and Minnie Street from Walkup Avenue to Woodstock Street.

Ramirez said curb work and manhole adjustments are underway, and final resurfacing and striping will be complete next week.

Crews also continue work on replacing the Williams Street sidewalk downtown, which includes landscape improvements. Ramirez said the new sidewalks are in place, and that 70 percent of the brick work is complete.

On Route 14, traffic signal upgrades at three intersections — McHenry, Dole and Keith — are ongoing with all new poles erected and signal heads in place. Crews are waiting on ComEd to connect the power, Ramirez said, and then the temporary signals will be removed.

The city’s other signalization project, which includes the LED conversion of 28 signals and installation of back-up batteries in the case of a power outage, is ongoing.

Ramirez urged residents to be patient during construction.

“Motorists can expect minor delays,” he said.
