Montini Catholic Hosts Easter Seals “Lose the Training Wheels” Program

During the first week of August, Montini Catholic High School in Lombard hosts Easter Seals’ Lose the Training Wheels Program.  This program helps children and young adults, ages 8 and up with disabilities, learn how to ride a bike without training wheels.  This week-long camp, held in Montini Catholic High School Field House, brought together 37 children from throughout DuPage Countym, to help them “lose their training wheels.”

The Lose the Training Wheels camp is intended to offer children and young adults, who have special needs, the opportunity to ride a bike without any training wheels on their own.  Using Easter Seals’ specialized equipment, as well as coaching and encouragement provided by both adult and Montini student volunteers.  Easter Seals has been sponsoring this event for 10 years.  The camp consists of 5 one hour and fifteen minute sessions each day.  The children learn how to balance, steer, pedal, and have fun while interacting with other children at this camp. “It’s great to watch how excited the children are to ride a bike, and also to see their parents joyful with pride,” commented junior, Christina Perrino (Elmhurst).
