September birthdays will be celebrated at a party for residents and friends at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at The Birches Assisted Living, 215 55th St., Clarendon Hills. Vocalist Robbie Malkowski, accompanied by pianist Dave Turner, will entertain. Malkowski, a mezzo-soprano, and Turner, a jazz/classic pianist, will perform songs from the 1930s through the ‘60s including Broadway tunes, movie theme songs, and many other favorites of stage and screen. The audience will hear stories about each musical piece, as Malkowski, dressed as Ginger Rodgers, sings, dances and entertains. “I know residents will really relate to so many unforgettable songs which were written and loved for all time,” said Lisa Lawrence, activities director. At every birthday party at The Birches, Joanne Ulshafer creates and donates corsages for the women and boutonnieres for the men. Ulshafer is the owner of Daisy Fields Florist, Clarendon Hills. Her kindness is appreciated by the staff and residents of The Birches.
