There were no reports of DuPage County Sheriff John Zaruba mailing tickets for his most recent campaign event to employees, a change from previous years when tickets were sent to their homes, a police union official said.

Many sheriff’s department employees had felt obligated to contribute, especially because tickets were numbered, said Deputy Paul Ledogar, president of Chapter 126 of the Metropolitan Alliance of Police. But there was no indication that happened for the fundraiser in October, he said.

“I believe individuals are less concerned and now feel like they have more of a vote and a voice,” Ledogar said. “Their fears have lessened as a result of (a new labor) contract and the Tribune investigation that brought all this information out to the public.”
