Buffalo Grove's Moving Play, The Laramie Project, Will Inspire Audiences

Buffalo Grove High School will present The Laramie Project by Moises Kaufman and the members of Tectonic Theater Project in the school's Miller Theater, Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 21-23. Thursday's performance will be at 7 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, at 7:30 p.m. The play explores human depths of intolerance and hatred for one another, as well as the heights of compassion and understanding. On Oct. 6, 1998, 21-year-old college student Matthew Shepard was kidnapped, beaten and killed in Laramie, Wyo., because he was gay. This horrific hate crime is the basis for the script, based on a collection of more than 200 interviews of citizens of Laramie conducted by the Tectonic Theater Project of New York. While the deeply moving play deals with bigotry, ignorance, and fear, it also demonstrates the courage, love, and hope needed to bridge differences in the future.
The cast includes the following: Zach Allen, Ambria Bernardi, Joe Cavaiani, Natalie Kozelka, Sophia Kravets, Paige Larkowski, Mack Logan, Jillian Lynch, Michael O’Konis, Miguel Melgar, Laura Newman, Lexie Polk, Katy Reinhart, William Riess, Mandy Thoenen, Alex Santilli, and Jimmy Vanderbosh.
The director is Beth Wells; scenic designer/technical director is Ed Moon; makeup and costume coordinator, Debbie Andres; and house manager, Betsy Ludemann.
Admission is $5. Tickets may be purchased in advance during the school day or at the door. For more information call (847) 718-4000.
