Armed with the knowledge that more than six out of ten people know someone who committed suicide, Jane Addams Middle School students will join nationwide efforts to make suicide prevention a priority by launching a fundraiser the week of Sept. 20.
Sponsored by Jane Addams Peer Mediation, the fund drive will support Out of the Darkness Overnight, an 18-mile walk through the night from dusk to dawn next June in New York City.
Donations may be made by family members as well as community members.
Students who donate $1 on Sept. 24 will be allowed to wear pajama bottoms to school for one day.
Out of the Darkness Overnight is sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Funds raised will be used for suicide prevention research and education.
More information on the Jane Addams fundraiser is available by calling either Dina Esposito or Angela McCollum at 630-759-7200, ext. 319.
