A 35-year-old Bolingbrook man is scheduled to appear in bond court this afternoon on a charge of aggravated DUI in connection with a Friday night two-vehicle collision that killed another Bolingbrook man.
Jay V. Cox, 35, of the 200 block of Meadowbrook Drive was driving a Jeep SUV when he allegedly hit a Nissan passenger car driven by Efren Garcia, 30, of the 300 block of Monterey Drive around 11:05 p.m. on the village’s northwest side.
Bolingbrook Police Spokesman Lt. Mike Rompa said both vehicles were eastbound on Rockhurst Road. The Jeep hit the driver’s side of the Nissan as it was turning north onto Monterey, pinning Garcia inside. The jeep rolled over, coming to rest on its roof.
Garcia, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:25 a.m. Saturday. Cox, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Cox was subsequently booked into the Will County Adult Detention facility, where he was being held this morning without bail.
Garcia lived approximately 70 yards north of the intersection, and Cox lives approximately 800 yards to the west.
Crash site investigators are working to determine Cox’ speed at the time, Rompa said.
