Barrington, IL – February 21, 2011 – The Kids Feeding Kids Club, founded in 2008 by 5-year-old Carson Pazdan, was just awarded 1st Place and $5,000 for winning Morris Press Cookbooks 11th Annual Cookbook Competition with their cookbook entitled, “Kids Feeding Kids Cookbook” which had gross sales of over $40,000 with 100% of the profits benefiting the Northern Illinois Food Bank – Youth Nutrition Program which feeds hungry children in 13 counties in northern Illinois.
The cookbook, which was the idea of it’s founder, is a collection of 800 recipes created by kids for kids. Through an extensive grass-roots effort, hundreds of children got on board to help the hungry by submitting recipes, as well as several celebrities including Oprah Winfrey, Maria Shriver, Chris O’Donnell and Sean Hayes.
Judge Diana McMillen, Senior Food Editor for Midwest Living magazine, commented “Just reading this book is entertainment…Kids of all ages would love this.” “[I] loved that kids contributed recipes…” said judge Dawn Saxton, Co-Founder and VP of Product Development of Specialty's Cafe & Bakery.
“Just getting that amount of people behind this….it’s a very inspirational story to be a part of” says Jarrod Daab, Associate Director of the Northern Illinois Food Bank. The NIFB was awarded the Food Bank of the Year, the highest award a food bank can receive by Feeding America. Carson Pazdan was also awarded the Volunteer of the Year for the NIFB.
ABOUT THE KIDS FEEDING KIDS CLUB — The Kids Feeding Kids Club, a recognized 501(c)3, has raised over $45,000 since being founded in 2008. The organization’s mission is to feed hungry youth through fundraising and volunteering, building awareness, compassion and a foundation of philanthropy that will last a lifetime. It is the organization’s belief that the earlier children are introduced to community service, volunteerism and charity work, the more likely they are to stay engaged in these activities into adulthood, making the world a better place.
The Kids Feeding Kids Club is planning a charity event in the fall to benefit hungry children and show the kids involved that they can continue to make a difference.
