Police recovered several hundred dollars from a popcorn box over the weekend after arresting a Johnsburg woman for taking the cash from a concession stand at the homecoming football game in Barrington.
Ann L. O’Connell, 48, of the 3200 block of Chellington Drive, was arrested Saturday, while at Barrington High School and charged with theft, said Sgt. Kevin Croke of the criminal investigations division. Bond for O’Connell was set at $20,000 during a hearing at the Lake County courthouse.
O’Connell, posing as a parent volunteer, entered a concession stand at the high school, 616 W. Main St., and grabbed a handful of cash, totaling $304 and then stuffed it into a popcorn box, before heading to the bleachers where apparently she was watching the game.
A staff member working at the concession stand witnessed the theft and followed O’Connell into the bleachers, while at the same time notifying police who were stationed at the high school.
She is next due in court Oct. 26.
