Village officials gave the go-ahead to close a portion of a street next month in downtown Barrington for a two-day Irish festival.
Bryan McGonigal, owner and general manager of McGonigal’s Pub, is staging the Barrington Celtic Fest on March 17 and 18th to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. A portion of Park Avenue between South Cook and East Station Streets will closed starting the afternoon of March 16 and re-open by noon March 19.
A large tent will be erected along Park Avenue next to the pub at 105 South Cook Street. There will be traditional Irish food and beverages and Irish dancers and Irish bands.
At the owner’s request, the Village Board earlier this week also agreed to wave various fees for a temporary liquor license and food license, among others, that totaled just over $700.
McGonigal agreed to pay for all village expenses associated with the festival, which include police and public works services.
