JOLIET, Ill. (AP) — An 85-year-old has become the oldest inmate to enter the Illinois prison system.
George Todd began serving a seven-year prison term Tuesday for molesting a 14-year-old girl.
The Barrington-area man pleaded guilty earlier this year to criminal sexual assault. He admitted molesting the girl in 2009 while she worked at his property.
The Illinois Department of Corrections says the oldest previous inmate to enter the prison system was 83.
Todd will be evaluated at the Stateville Correctional Center near Joliet before being assigned to a prison.
Defense attorney David Kerstein asked the sentencing judge to be lenient, citing several medical problems Todd suffers. He said anything beyond a minimum term could be “a death sentence.”
