Barrington’s comprehensive plan that guides development is 10 years old, and to jump-start its updating, the village board and plan commission are starting a series of neighborhood meetings tonight.
Residents living near Citizen’s Park, off Route 14, and property and business owners are asked to share their ideas and concerns beginning at 7 p.m. in Village Hall.
“It’s their village and this is their opportunity to tell us what’s going on in their neighborhood and if the plans for the future from 10 years ago is outdated or it’s still a good plan,” Village President Karen Darch said.
The comprehensive plan has to be updated every 10 years with the current one last revised in 2000. Topics to be covered will include municipal boundaries, intergovernmental agreements, land use, economic development and more.
The vision for Barrington is to preserve and promote its unique small town heritage, preserve its distinct ecology and historical character, according to the village’s web site.
Darch said it will take about one year to incorporate changes to the plan, which will be drafted by the plan commission after a series of neighborhood meetings. The plan then will go before the Village Board for approval.
Meetings for each neighborhood are scheduled for Wednesdays throughout the fall.
