TribLocal area cheerleaders have plenty to yell about in state meet

 TribLocal area school dominated the Illinois High School Association Cheerleading State Finals Feb. 6 in Bloomington.

Conant won the large school competition with a 94.10, followed by Lockport (93.48) and Sandburg (92.44). Neuqua Valley claimed fifth, Stevenson sixth, Andrew eighth and St. Viator 10th.

Lemont won its second straight medium team division title with a 90.56.

Grant took fourth, Wauconda took sixth and Prairie Ridge finished seventh.

Lemont was a  runner-up in 2007 and 2008 before winning the school’s first IHSA team state championship in any sport in 2009.

Lemont’s 2010 varsity squad includes seniors Alyssa Baffoe, Sarah

Clancy, Paige Rallis, Kelsey Wall, Katie Wallace and Crystal Wohead;

juniors Annie Baffoe, Lindsay Bromberek, Jennifer Doornbos, Brittany Grad, Emily Marzo, Aileen McGraw and Keara McGraw; sophomores Sabrina Haggerty, Alex Lyewski and Nicole May; and freshmen Amber D’Andrea and Katelyn Howe.

In the small team division, Columbia won with a 91.26 while Timothy Christian finished second with an 87.40.

Elk Grove Village won the coed event with a 93.38 and Downers Grove South finished third with a 89.80. Barrington took fourth and Libertyville sixth.
