Two Aurora Public Library volunteers honored at Community Breakfast
Two Aurora Public Library volunteers were honored during the City of Aurora's Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board Community Breakfast on Friday, Jan. 27.
Rosa Nevarez, a former member of the Main Aurora Public Library's Teen Advisory Board, was honored with a $1,000 college scholarship. Nevarez is a student at the American Academy of Art in Chicago as well as Waubonsee Community College. She has been a faithful volunteer, helping create posters and signs for teen programs at the Main Library and also lending her creative abilities to the Aurora Public Library Foundation's Imagine...the possibilities fundraiser. She also volunteered as a member of Team READ, the library's committee to decorate a window in downtown Aurora with a library theme. Nevarez created a dress from the pages of a book for the window.
Nevarez is a West Aurora High School graduate.
Cesar Ortega, a current member of the Main Library's Teen Advisory Board, was recognized with a Youth Leadership Award. He was awarded a $50 Barnes & Noble gift card and a book. He attends East Aurora High School.
Both volunteers have been mentored by Main Teen Librarian Hannah Berry.
