Teachers, families and the principal at Whittier Elementary School in Downers Grove took over a local McDonald's restaurant to serve up food and fun in the Winter Celebration fundraiser Jan. 11.

Whittier educators and parents greeted customers, took food orders, served requests, and collected cash at store registers from 3 to 7 p.m. at the 225 E. Ogden Ave. McDonald's.

Whittier students and other youth got in on the fun by taking over the restaurant's play room between bites of food.

Profits from the event will help fund Whittier programs.
