Observances marking Veterans Day are planned in several south and southwest suburbs this weekend.

Orland Park’s ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at the village’s Civic Center, 14750 S. Ravinia Ave., directly south of Village Hall, and will include the reading of military veterans whose names have been added to granite walls bordering the village’s Veterans Memorial.

Orland Park’s memorial displays the engraved names of veterans, living and deceased, from across the country who served in all branches and in all wars. It is during the Memorial and Veterans Day ceremonies newly added veterans’ names are announced and the veterans recognized.

Members of American Legion Orland Memorial Post 111 and Orland-Palos Rebber-Tesmond Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 2604 will participate, and the event will be shown live on the village’s YouTube channel.

Mayor Keith Pekau, who served in the Air Force, will read the names.

Veterans to be honored are George G. Bacho, Steven C. Bacho, James Thomas Boylan, Edward F. Cygan, Thomas Hooker, Reginald Miller, Thomas Robert Queeney and Darryl F. Wertheim.

Other ceremonies

Alsip — Veterans Day ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at Veterans Plaza, 118th Street and South Pulaski Road, with members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 450 participating.

Blue Island — American Legion Post 50 will conduct its annual Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Park, 12800 Highland Ave., Blue Island.

Chicago Heights — The city’s Veterans Day observance is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Park District Recreation Center, 1400 Chicago Road.

Lansing — A ceremony honoring veterans will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the village’s Veterans Memorial, at the southeast corner of Burnham Avenue and Glenwood Lansing Road at the Lansing Municipal Airport.

Mokena — The village and the William Martin Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 725 will hold an observance at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pioneer Cemetery, Wolf Road and Denny Street. Following the ceremony, the post, 19852 Wolf Road, will offer free food until 2 p.m.

New Lenox — The village is partnering with American Legion Post 1977 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9545 in a ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Village Commons, 145-199 Veterans Parkway.

Palos Heights — The city’s Veterans Day program is at 11 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Park, 7607 W. College Drive.

Palos Hills — A Veterans Day observance will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Palos Hills Community Center, 8455 W. 103rd St.

Posen — A ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the American Legion Post 990, 2590 Walter Zimny Drive.

Richton Park — A Veterans Day parade will step off at 10 a.m. Saturday at the village’s Metra station, on the north side of Sauk Trail, east of Governors Highway. The parade will continue west on Sauk Trail to the Rich Township High School District 227 Fine Arts and Communications Campus, 5000 Sauk Trail, where a ceremony will take place in the gymnasium.

Sauk Village — The village will have a Veterans Day observance at 11 a.m. Saturday at Village Hall, 21801 Torrence Ave.

Tinley Park —The village of Tinley Park and the Tinley Park Veterans Commission will host the annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Gen. Patrick E. Rea Veterans Plaza, adjacent to the south entrance of the 80th Avenue Metra train station, 18001 S. 80th Ave. The entire ceremony will be livestreamed on the village’s Facebook.
