Hospital staff preps for disaster

Northwest Community Hospital prepped for six months for a drill held Friday that simulated the third day of a tornado, in which injuries were largely from people trapped in debris, injured while rifling through their ruined homes or sick of from a lack of treatment for their pre-existing conditions. The hospital’s staff applied make-up to a unit of the US Army Reserve to simulate three different types of injuries: green, yellow and red. Green injuries were referred to as the walking wounded and could be treated and released; the yellow were injured, but did not to be treated immediately, and could stay or leave the hospital; and the red patients suffered serious injuries and had to be treated immediately.
