A 76-year-old woman was struck in a crosswalk by a minivan and killed in the parking garage of Northwest Community Hospital Wednesday morning, Arlington Heights police said.
A red Chrysler van driven by a 59-year-old Mount Prospect resident was heading north up the first floor parking garage ramp when it struck Ramona A. Zentefis of Des Plaines, who was walking in a painted area for pedestrians toward the Busse Center for Specialty Medicine, police said.
She was trapped under the car and fire department paramedics and Northwest Community Hospital staff treated her while others tried to raise the van and free her, authorities said. When she could be moved, she was taken across the parking lot to the emergency room with multiple injuries, but died, police said.
A surveillance camera helped police crash reconstruction investigators piece the incident together. No traffic citations or criminal charges have been issued, but the incident remains under investigation, police said.
