At its February 21st meeting, the Antioch District #34 Board of Education recognized Antioch Upper Grade School teacher Frances Dellutri for the grant she received from Princeton University. After completing a one week physics camp in July of 2011, Mrs. Dellutri was eligible to apply for a grant to be used for equipment to teach the concepts of plasma physics to the Antioch Upper Grade School students and staff. As part of the application process, Mrs. Dellutri designed a six week curriculum for 7th graders and planned a full-day workshop for teachers on plasma physics.
This January, the Princeton University Plasma Physics Lab awarded $2,000 of grant money to Mrs. Dellutri based on her submission. The equipment she will purchase will be used to educate students in emerging 21st century energy considerations. Mrs. Dellutri recently completed a pilot program in this area for 6th and 7th graders during January and February. Mrs. Dellutri is also working on developing a physics enrichment class that would take place during the Intervention/Enrichment period during the 2012-2013 school year.
