Vanessa DiBernardo, a Waubonsie Valley High School girls soccer player, was honored with April's Triblocal/Valley Honda Sports Person of the Month award during a girls soccer game May 7. Crowding around DiBernardo, her team cheered the junior on as she modestly accepted an award from Triblocal and a $500 check from Don Davis, general manager for contest sponsor Valley Honda, 4173 Ogden Ave., Aurora. The money will go to her school. DiBernardo led the Warriors to the 2008 Class AA girls soccer state championship. She also is a two-time all-state selection and the daughter of one of the most acclaimed players in U.S. soccer history—Angelo DiBernardo, who is now the boys soccer coach at Waubonsie.
