Local Radio Sisters Go National

Radio hosts and North Shore sisters, Betsy Brint and Sally Higginson are now on the air coast to coast.  Sister-in-law, and Glencoe resident Claudia Schwartz, is the show's producer.  Their hour-long talk radio show, Walking on Air with Betsy and Sal, airs Monday through Friday on stations from Riverside, California to Bridgeton, New Jersey.

Brint and Higginson started their radio careers in 2004 at WLBK in DeKalb, Il.  By 2007, the listener feedback was strong enough to convince the station owner, Don Davis, to ask the sisters to go from a one day a week show to a five day a week show.  At that point, the sisters decided to set up their own studio in downtown Highland Park.

During the following two years, Brint and Higginson produced their daily show in addition to filling in on WGN radio nearly thirty times.  Last year, in a move to increase their listenership, they decided to syndicate their show nationally.  They can now be heard on eight stations across the nation and are in the process of adding more.

Brint is also excited about their growing podcast audience.  “The podcast listeners are great, because they are specifically choosing to hear our show instead of just turning on the radio and listening by chance, and they tend to be extremely loyal and interactive.”  Higginson adds, “The podcasts are just under 45 minutes which is the perfect amount of time to exercise.  We have had lots of listeners thank us for keeping them entertained when they go for walks.  Some even increase the number of days they exercise so they can stay current with the show.”

The concept of the show is simple: What do women talk about when they go walking?  The answer: Everything.  Brint and Higginson give their take on the news of the day and explore the ups and downs of being women, mothers, wives, working professionals and friends.  They regularly have nationally recognized experts on the show to help sort out the issues.

To learn more about Brint and Higginson and the show go to their website, www.walkingonair.org.  Brint, age 45, and Higginson, age 47, have also started Facebooking and Tweeting.  Thanks to summer intern Lauren Cohn, you can now become a fan.  Listeners can tune in to the show during its live stream, as well as download current and past shows in podcast form from iTunes, Stitcher, and Podcast Alley.
